  OUR STORY

At all began in the RA office. At least, we think so. Rachel and Monica had just come from high-adventure outdoor summers. Brynn and Corey had been working on founding a Hiking Club the year before. Horacio came to BC from a background of outdoor adventure (including in Alaska!) And after a few conversations in RA offices here and there, we all found ourselves around a table with a stack of club documents. We wanted adventure. We wanted authentic encounter with close friends around campfires and on hiking trails. We wanted goofy car rides and serious conversations under the stars. Five of us drafted the documents and wrestled over the mission statement. Forty people came to our interest meeting. And two weeks later, in our six-man tent booth at the club fair, two-hundred BC students signed up for our club.

The following months brought scads of new ideas: a library of gear, a monthly "Audience" to give students the platform to talk about their passions, student-led club trips...a community of kids following the footsteps of JPII.

The picture is the day our Gearbrary equipment came in. Cue Monica yelling "WE HAVE THIRTY-SIX PACKAGES, PEOPLE! ALL HANDS ON DECK!" Aaaaand the packages all came in about 6 boxes. (STILL. 36.)

Our Mission

JPII Outfitters' mission statement is:

To pursue the beauty of Christ inherent in community and nature

Our logo represents this mission. The left mountain stands for the adventure, the call to explore and discover creation. The left mountain is subtly inscribed with an "M" to snow-cap it. The M, in the true spirit of JPII, is for Mary, our Mother. The middle teepee represents community. We love the idea that the adventure culminates in a communion, a sharing of food and swapping of stories. This is an authentic, intimate way of growing with each other. And the right mountain bearing JPII's crucifix represents our huge love for Pope Saint JPII and the lifestyle he demonstrated to the Church. We seek to pursue the beauty of Christ as he did, following his footsteps to Heaven!
